Chapter Nine The Worm Turns

Revolution, Socialism, Communism, despite the appalling working conditions, all were slow coming to the Sierra Almagrera. The patient, indifferent, tolerant even, attitudes of the workers began to change in this isolated part of the world. Here too, the old order was gradually changing.

Like so often in life, hard won victories can be hollow ones. The Europe wide consequences of the First World War left many who had gained workers’ rights without any work in which to exercise them.
